HOW TO SURVIVE VALENTINE’S DAY DURING A DIVORCE

HOW TO SURVIVE VALENTINE’S DAY DURING A DIVORCE

The kicker about Valentine’s Day when you’re getting divorced is that not only do you feel alone today, but you’re also grieving for the relationship that fell apart. This means you need to engage in self-care, both for yourself now, and also to dig yourself out of a hole of months or years of not being loved the way you should have been. Here are some tips on surviving Valentine’s Day during a divorce:

  1. Buy Yourself a Present. Yes it’s materialistic, but buy yourself something that makes you happy. Go out and get something indulgent, whether it’s a box of chocolates or a new piece of jewelry. Treat yourself the way you’d like to be treated.

  1. Do Something Physical. Go for a run (now’s a great time to start the “Couch to 5K running plan). Find a yoga class or get a massage. You could do something daring, like joining a roller derby league or something silly, like going outside and making snow angels.

  1. Spend Time with Your Loved Ones.  Invite your favorite people over to eat pizza and watch movies.  Have a slumber party with your friends with plenty of board games and bottles of wine. Have a special family day with your kids with their favorite foods for dinner and sundaes for dessert.
