Wise Words of a Six Year Old to her Divorced Parents

“I just want everyone to be friends” – the Wise Words of a Six Year Old to her Divorced Parents

In a video making its way around the internet, a six-year old girl named Tiana sits her divorced Mother and Father down to make a very simple request of them – she just wants everyone to be friends. In a two-and-a-half minute heart-felt, very eloquent speech to her parents, Tiana explains that “my heart is something. Everyone else’s heart is something too. And if we live in a world where everyone’s being mean, everyone’s gonna be a monster in the future.” She further encourages her parents that if she can be nice, “then all of us can be nice too.”

The video was purportedly made after Tiana observed a fight between her parents. Her mother identifies herself on Facebook as a “single mom working two jobs” and posts the antics of her adorable daughter for thousands of followers.

In several Pennsylvania counties, including Montgomery, Delaware and Chester Counties, any parent that petitions the court for a form of custody must attend a mandatory parenting class. These classes involve a video or discussion regarding the effects that protracted custody litigation can have on children and methods to prevent alienation of children through throughout the process. In certain, high conflict cases, it is not uncommon for a parent to request or the court to order co-parent counseling. In co-parent counseling, a trained therapist assist the parties with techniques to solve problems and address conflict as they learn to raise their children in two separate households and as co-parents.

Tiana’s words are important to all separated parents, divorced parents, and parents who may just fight in front of their children. As you learn to co-parent, remember the effect your angry words have on your children, and each other, and that if we can all be a little nicer, there will be a lot less monsters in the future.
